New Editor Needed

The opportunity has arisen for a new editor to take over the running of DMR.

The writing team is still in place and able to provide articles for next season, all logos/artwork are also available to be passed on.

If any interest, please email pne2008@googlemail.com

Thanks, Preben.

Reading & Plymouth

Well we managed to stop the rot, four losses on the bounce didn’t become five thankfully although I’m still not quite sure how we managed it.

Reading are obviously a very good outfit and to be honest we were never ever in it until that farce of an own goal to make it 1-1. Credit to us though because we did then get about them and probably deserved a bit of luck to take the lead from Elliott.

How Reading never equalised in that last five minutes will forever remain a mystery to me – penalty appeals, woodwork hit, clearances of the line, etc. What relief at FT though.

And so onto Plymouth….well for 199 anyway. Plymouth on a tuesday night? Nutters!

I don’t really wish to discuss it much, we lost 1-0. Sounded like our only real chances of the entire game arrived in the last 30 seconds and we missed both.

Earlier on Lonergan had gone walkabouts on a corner and a typical soft goal was the order of the day. Tough to take but on we go, Sheff United away next, see you there cha.

I didn’t go to Watford

Well my financies finally caught up with me (speaking of which, I went £1.17 over my overdraft limit and the bastards charged me 35 notes, utter bastards!) and I missed the Watford game.

Lucky me eh!

The dulcit tones of Phil Cunliffe and the fair minded Steve Cowell were my tonic as I setted for Radio Lancs. All started well, the whitest of black boys St Ledger put us infront, some time later our defending was shite and we were 2-1 down.

We didn’t seem to do much, apart from a couple of “Ooooh North End must score here……no its cleared away.” Dicks.

Roll on Reading.

Burnley & Swansea

Losing a derby is never fun, and I would have to say that sums up the visit to Turf Moor pretty well for me.

Despite taking the lead we never really deserved it and as the match went on it seemed clear it was a case of when and not if the Dingles would score. Too many mistakes and 3-1 down was fair enough, Burnley bossed it.

The one ray of light I took from the match was that hopefully Irvine would have learned one or two things about certain players and their fighting spirit (or lack of), however seeing the team that came on for Swansea, then maybe not.

The seven and a half year tuesday night record was handed over without so much as a whimper – the bright start was never recaputered when Bodde caught Lonners asleep.

I wouldn’t condone booing Carter but I must admit I was very relieved to see him subbed off, he’s not a tenth of the player Chaplow is. Rant, rant, rant!!

Midlands Mix

Apologises for the lack of updates but I’ve been busy and was born lazy.

The past three games have seen a draw, win and a loss. Coventry was an absolute snooze fest it has to be said. Well I say Coventry, I mean the 90 minutes. Leaving Preston at 9am with the Strollers ensured an enjoyable trip, shame we couldn’t return with a full points haul but alas.

However “normal service was resumed” with the visit of Forest. We don’t lose on tuesday’s night at Deepdale, we just don’t. Regardless of how drunk or not drunk Mr Mawene may appear! Hell even Darren Carter managed to put in a decent shift for at least an hour, the magic of playing under the floodlights eh!?

And then Wolves…what to say? Beaten by a better side? Yes. Could we have played better? Yes. Did we miss Chaplow? Yes. Is Mick Mcarthey a knob? Yes.

It was a shame that with over 14,000 nobbers on we couldn’t have performed better but there was no disgrace in losing to a Wolves side who are absolutely on fire at the moment. It was only just over 12 months ago we saw another side smash three past us at Deepdale – Colchester. Quite a difference I’m sure you’d agree.

Chins up, third it is.

The BEAST drops in

So as we reach the international break we’re back to the lofty position of joint top and as far as performances go, they don’t come much better than we witnessed against Charlton.

For the first time this season Mellor finally had a strike partner worthy of him as Jon Parkin impressed on his debut.

Of course failure to mention the midfield would be farcical. It was probably as good as a performance as a quartert you are likely to see and I don’t think thats particularly going stupidly over the top.

Elliot from Wolves looks set to join on deadline day and maybe Irvine will have another up his sleeve too. Great times to be a Nobber.

Ping!

How about a pin-point 70 yard cross field ball for your new team when they’re trailing 1-0 away from home? I give you Ross Wallace.

The little jock winger and surprisingly Hawley really bailed us out at Hillsborough, credit must go to Irvine for changing the team and thus the match. Despite missing a sitter a few minutes earlier, Chappers had this one on a plate for him. The midfield only scoring goes on!

The 100% win has gone but we’re still unbeaten and 7 from 9 shows a great return from a difficult opening trio of games. Hopefully one or two new faces in the next week or so will help cement our place as genuine playoff contenders?

Cheers to all those who bought a copy of DMR today as well, only a few more to shift now.

Six from six

Yeah thats right, all the tabloids and London based media once again wrote us off before a ball was kicked but perhaps one or two may just be looking up a little further north already.

Today showed we have the makings of a very good side, if we had a Nugent or a Fuller playing upfront with Mellor we could potentially be ripping this league up, but obviously we don’t.

Some of the passing and moving against Palace who played with five in midfield was a joy to watch and it was very deserving Nicholson (if he gets to claim it!) and Chaplow bagged the goals.

A great first week indeed.

A great first week!

Welcome to dmrfanzine – home of Degsy’s Midnight Runners.

On this main page I’ll just update randomly on how the mighty whites are doing, or not doing. Great first week though, best 500 round mile trip I’ve ever had last week at Portman Road.
